Welsh Water
Case Summary
Welsh Water (Dŵr Cymru in Welsh) is a not-for-profit company that supplies drinking water and manages wastewater in Wales and parts of England on the Welsh border. Their late-night support line has proven fertile ground for pranksters. There appears to be a rotation of 2-3 attendants who answer these calls, most notably an agent referred to as ‘Walter’, who starred in the original and longest soundboard call to Welsh Water, made with the Max soundboard.
Origins and History
Welsh Water was first called during Kimble’s 24 Hour Stream, as the 24-hour support was one of the only places available to call during the night-time hours of the USA and UK. Kimble used his voice during these pranks. The first soundboard call to Welsh Water was made with Max. The attendant who answered was very concerned with helping, but appeared confused at his insistence that the water issue was within the ‘Hyatt Regency’ hotel, as the nearest Hyatt Regency was in Birmingham, England.
‘Walter’, as named by Ye24, attempted to help Max for almost 30 minutes before eventually amicably ending the call after realising the confused front desk attendant was referring to the Hyatt Regency in Cleveland, Ohio – an area apparently not covered by Welsh Water.
Several subsequent calls have been made to the late-night line of Welsh Water. One particular agent, an older gentleman, is more ‘no-nonsense’ than the other workers and has threatened or otherwise attempted to deter further pranks. Kimble has used his voice several times during these calls, complaining among other things that his water was less smelly and more clear and drinkable than usual, or that he was finding it difficult to drink out of the toilet.
Soundboard and Calls
The Welsh Water soundboard, of ‘Walter’, has been used to call the company and several other places. The board professes confusion numerous times (due to his initial conversation with Max) and often queries the location of the victim. The board can refer to itself as “Mr. McLain”, or claim to be “an association located in Cleveland”.
